A great Tanzania safari doesn't come from picking a package off a shelf — it comes from a handful of clear decisions made in the right order. Here is the process we walk every traveller through.
Step 1: Decide the shape of your trip
Tanzania offers four very different experiences. The Northern Circuit (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Lake Manyara) is the classic first-timer's route with the highest wildlife density and the Great Migration. The Southern Circuit (Nyerere / Selous and Ruaha) is wilder, more remote, and far quieter. Kilimanjaro is the mountain — a stand-alone 6–8 day climb. Zanzibar is the beach coda most travellers add on. Most first-time visitors combine Northern Circuit + Zanzibar over 10–12 days.
Step 2: Choose your dates
Season drives almost everything — wildlife behaviour, availability, and mood. June–October is peak, January–February is calving season, November and March–May are green and quieter. Peak-season camps book out 6–9 months ahead; shoulder seasons are far more flexible. If your dates are fixed, we'll build the itinerary around what that specific window does best.
Step 3: Pick your travel style
Comfort level matters more than most people expect. Mid-range tented camps and lodges strike the best balance of value and experience for most travellers. Luxury and premium camps add space, service, and location — often inside the parks rather than on the boundary, saving hours of driving. Budget mobile camping is possible and rewarding for the right traveller, but check what's actually included before comparing options.
Step 4: Decide how you'll move between parks
You can drive the whole Northern Circuit — long but scenic, and you keep the same guide throughout. Or you can fly between parks on scheduled bush flights, saving hours each day and opening up the more remote areas. Many of the best itineraries combine both: drive the first parks, fly the last leg.

For a comfortable, mid-range 7-day Northern Circuit safari including park fees, guide, vehicle, full-board lodges, and internal transfers, plan on roughly US$350–550 per person per day. Luxury runs US$700–1,200+ per day. International flights and Zanzibar are additional. These are honest working figures — we'll refine them with a real quote for your dates.
